Welcome DrumStrong, the newest member of our Nest family! The past couple of Fridays, DrumStrong has visited the Academy to teach the students about rhythm and the healing power of music! The organization was founded to raise awareness and funds in support of cancer survivorship, education, and research. DrumStrong brings a variety of drums and percussion instruments from cultures around the world and facilitates a drum circle, where the students can experiment with different sounds and beats. DrumStrong founder, Scott Swimmer, explains the proper ways to play the instruments and encourages creativity in rhythm. The students also participate in discussions about the emotions evoked by music and the ways that rhythm and song connect and unite people within and across cultures. These drum circles are a fun way to end our weeks and provide a unique outlet for our students to express themselves and connect with each other! Check out the photos and videos below from our time with DrumStrong!
