This semester we were excited to welcome a new intern with us! Sophia Secard joined us from Queens University. She jumped right into helping when our kids were virtual, helping  with meals and tutoring needs. We have been so grateful to have her! Below, Sophia writes a little about herself and her time at The Nest so far!

“Hi, I am Sophia. I was born near Managua, Nicaragua. I was later adopted and moved to the states. I have lived in Austin, Texas for most of my life. I am a family of five and have two adorable dogs. I have two younger siblings who are 17 and 19 years old who are also adopted. When I was applying to schools, I made sure to apply to schools out of Texas. I have always enjoyed traveling, and I love exploring new places. That’s how I ended up at Queens University of Charlotte. I am a Psychology major and will be graduating this coming up May. These past few years have been exciting, and I have learned so much about myself and Charlotte. Besides traveling, I love to hang out with friends and family, listening to music, and running.

I am loving The Nest Academy. Everyone here is so kind and welcoming. They are all super hardworking. The children are so fun to interact with, and it’s great seeing them smiling and laughing all the time. My first couple of weeks have been awesome, and I’m excited for what’s to come!”

Sophia has been a rockstar! The kids love having her around and are always finding ways to make her laugh. We are grateful to have interns like Sophia and Connor to come alongside us in our mission and help them grow as well!
